Udaipur

Founded in 1553 by Maharana Udai Singh II as the new capital of Mewar

Often referred to as the ‘Venice of the East’, the city of lakes Udaipur is located around azure water lakes and is hemmed in by lush green hills of Aravallis.

City Palace: It towers over Lake Pichola. The balconies, cupolas, and towers of the palace give a wonderful view of the lake and the surrounding city. This complex actually consists of four major and several minor palaces that collectively form the magnificent City Palace. The main part of the palace is now preserved as a museum displaying artifacts.

It is also home to Jaisamand Lake, claimed to be the second largest man-made sweet water lake in Asia.

Lake Palace

Now a hotel but was originally called Jagniwas and served as a summer palace. Built between 1743 and 1746 on the island near Jagmandir in Lake Pichola, the palace, which faces east, is a wondrous sight to behold.

Tree House in Limca Book of Records

A tree house built has been made in Udaipur on an old mango tree. It was the brainchild of a businessman known as K.P. Singh who wanted to build a tree house without harming the tree. A small artisan from Surat helped him achieve his dream by building the tree House without removing any branch of the tree. It has also featured in the Limca Book of World Records.

Haldighati

Around 50 kms from Udaipur is Haldighati. The Battle of Haldighati was fought on 18 June 1576 between the armies of Maharana Pratap, the Rana of Mewar, and the Mughal emperor Akbar’s forces, led by Man Singh I of Amber.Haldighati is a region in the Aravalli mountain range, which links Rajsamand and Pali districts in Rajasthan, the name for which is inspired by its yellow-turmeric coloured soil. It also has the Maharana Pratap Museum, the tomb of Chetak and is known for Rose farming.

Kumbhalgarh Fort

The longest wall in the world is the Great Wall of China. However, the Kumbhalgarh Fort near Udaipur has the second longest wall in the world. The wall extends up to 36km. The fort itself was designed in such a way that it would not visible to the invaders, and the wall was also built to protect the fort from enemy attacks. Built by Rana Kumbha who was the Rana of Mewar from the Sisodia rajput clan.It is also known to be the birthplace of Rana Pratap.
