And thats a wrap of Hyderabad, Telangana visiting some iconic places, meeting some extraordinary people and over eating some amazing delicacies of the city. Telangana’s largest and most-populous city, redesignated as the capital of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad was founded by the QuṭbShāhī sultans of Golconda on the east bank of the Musi River. Last three days (3rd to 5th Dec 2021) in this beautiful city has been just amazing. We are definitely coming back soon.

Some of the highlights:

1. Charminar, a  grand architectural composition in Indo-Saracenic style with open arches and four minarets, is regarded as the supreme achievement of the QuṭabShāhī period. It formed the centrepiece around which the city was planned. It is the landmark of the old city of Hyderabad and it is hope to many small business locates here. We get to meet shopkeepers and artisans who are trying hard to get back.

2. Golconda – The Architectural Marvel
Golconda Fort is listed as an archaeological treasure on the official “List of Monuments” prepared by the Archaeological Survey of India. The fort used to have a vault where the famous Koh-i-Noor and Hope diamonds were once stored along with other diamonds.

3. We followed the food trail with the Nizam’s breakfast and Irani Cafes. Yum!! 🙂

Cuisines

The cuisine of Hyderabad reflects royalty as these were once served to the ‘Nizams’ of Hyderabad, with a 400 year history. The dishes were inspired from Turkish, Arabic, ‘Mughlai’ and ‘Tandoori’ styles of cooking, with a blend of ‘Telugu’ spices and ‘Marathwada’ techniques that has led to the current cuisine of Hyderabad. The key ingredients in most of the dishes in Hyderabad are peanuts, coconut, sesame seeds, tamarind and these are usually cooked in earthen pots, copper or brass utensils. Some of the most popular delicacies found here includes the ‘Hyderabadi Biryani’, ‘Kheer’, ‘PaayaNahari’, ‘Pattar Ka Gosht’, ‘Khubani-ka-Meetha’, ‘Baghare Baingan’, ‘Haleem’ and much more.

Famous food in Hyderabad

Biryani – The dish originated from Hyderabad and is one of the most loved dish all over India. The first biryani of Hyderabad was a non-vegetarian dish consisting of rice, meat, spices and herbs. According to history, the ‘Nizams’ served 26 different varieties of biryani to their guests.

Curries and Starters

The dishes are prepared with a lot of spice, herbs and nuts and are always cooked in rich ghee. ‘Murghi Ka Khorma’, ‘Bina Masale Ka Murgh’, ‘MurghNawabi’, ‘Chugur Gosht’, ‘Kulfa Gosht’, ‘Turai Gosht’ and ‘Pathar Ka Gosht’, ‘Katti Dal’, ‘Tamaton Ka Kut’, ‘Kaddu Ka Dalcha’ and ‘Sem Ki Phalli Ka Salan’  are some of the must-have delicacies when in Hyderabad.

Snacks

The ‘Chota Samosa’ The ‘Osmania’ biscuit The ‘DilKhush’, ‘DilPasand’ and ‘Lukhmi’ are other famous snack items of Hyderabad. The cuisines here are a blend of Mughlai, Tandoori, Turkish and Arabic styles of cooking as well as South Indian culinary techniques, which makes the dishes so enjoyable.
