Mizoram is one of the lesser known and traveled destinations in the North-East of India. The reason is not the beautiful geography that it offers, but the state has opened up for tourism relatively recently than its neighbours. There is also not promotion being done for bringing in tourism to the state and therefore there is dearth of information about this beautiful destination.

PHAWNGPUI HILLS
Phawngpui also known as the Blue Mountain is the highest peak (2157 m) in Mizoram. Located near the Myanmar border the place is also called as the ‘House of Gods’ this hill station is rich in exotic species of orchids, fragrant herbs, wildlife and rhododendron. The lush green landscapes all around are spectacular. It’s a great place to hike and explore.
How To Get There: The nearest airport is in Aizawl (300 km away). The best way is to hire taxis to get there by road.
VANTAWNG FALLS
The largest waterfall in the state of Mizoram is a spectacular sight. Located in the Serchhip district, the waterfall is around 137 km from Aizawl. The fall is in the Vanva River near the picturesque small town of Thenzawl, surrounded by dense green forest. While you are visiting the falls, you could explore the beautiful district of Serchhip from the air, paragliding.
How To Get There: The best way is to hire taxis to get there by road to Thenzawl and then hike from there.
MURLEN NATIONAL PARK
Located in the Champai district of Mizoram near the India-Myanmar border, Murlen National Park is home to exotic flora and diverse fauna, with some rare bird species. Several rivers flow through the park, that makes hiking here a pleasurable endeavour. There is a large cave in the park that could accommodate around 40 people.
How To Get There: Nearest airport is Shillong airport, about 245 Km from the Murlen National Park. Shillong airport is well connected by road network to Murlen National Park. By Rail – Nearest railway station is Silchar railway station, about 185 Km from the Murlen National Park.
DAMPA TIGER RESERVE
This is one of the remote tiger reserves in India, located in the West of Mizoram near the India-Bangladesh border. The reserve covers a huge area and extends into China and Layan regions as well. Apart from tigers, the reserve is home to a large number of clouded leopards.
How To Get There: The Lengpui airport is around 70 km from Dampa Tiger Reserve. Silchar is the nearest railhead from Aizawl (180 km away). State buses and hired taxis run regularly to reach the reserve.
TAMDIL
Tam means mustard and Dil means lake in Mizo language. This is the largest lake in the state of Mizoram. This is a man-made lake and it was developed purely for tourism purposes by the state government. One could go boating, or fishing, or just take a stroll along the shores of the lake. The lake is surrounded by a lot of greenery and hills that it looks like a clear pond of water that is tucked between green meadows. A great picnic spot.
How To Get There: Tamdil lake is 100 km from Aizawl and can be reached by road through a hired car.
CHHINGPUI AND KAPTLUANGA MEMORIAL
Built as a memorial to commemorate the beautiful yet tragic love story of Chhingpui and Kaptluanga. Located on the Aizawl-Lunglei road between Baktawng and Chhingchhip villages. It is indeed an interesting place to visit in Mizoram.
CHAPCHAR KUT SPRING FESTIVAL
The best time to visit Mizoram and experience the local flavour and fervour is during the week-long Chapchar Kut Spring festival. It is celebrated every year before the spring season could set in and winter ends. This festival is celebrated by the local tribes by making instruments out of bamboo. Men, women, and children adorn themselves with headgears and other ornaments and dance to welcome the spring season. One can get to taste the local delicacies and other mouth-watering dishes.
LUANGMUAL HANDICRAFTS CENTRE
Located at a distance of around 7 km from main Aizawl Town Luangmual Handicrafts Centre is a popular spot to explore and shop the beautiful Mizo handicrafts. Must visit to take back the memories through local handicrafts.
