The city of Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Jai Singh II, the Raja of Amer who ruled from 1688 to 1743. The construction of the city began. During the rule of Sawai Ram Singh, the city was painted pink to welcome Prince Edward VII. Most of Jaipur is still pink, due to which it’s known as the Pink city.
Chand Baori – It is one of the oldest and most attractive landmarks in Rajasthan. It was built by King Chanda of the Nikumbha Dynasty between 800 and 900 AD and was dedicated to Hashat Mata. Chand Baori consists of 3,500 narrow steps over 13 stories. It is one of the deepest and largest stepwells in India. The state of Rajasthan is extremely arid, and the design and final structure of Chand Baori was intended to conserve as much water as possible. At the bottom of the well, the air is cooler than at the surface by 5-6 degrees. It was used as a community gathering place during extremely hot days.
Hawa Mahal or “Palace of the Breeze” is built with red and pink sandstone. It is a high screen wall built in the shape of Lord Krishna’s crown. It was built so that the women of the royal household could observe street festivities while remaining hidden from the outside world.
Amber Fort is located in Amber (Jaipur), which used to be the capital of the Kachhwaha clan, before Jaipur was made the official capital in 1727. The Amber Fort is built in white marble and red sandstone. It is next to Maota Lake, which adds to its magnificence. The crystal mirror image of the Fort, on the still waters of the lake, seems to be a beautiful illusion.
City Palace, is one of the famous and a major landmark in Jaipur. The beautiful palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh during his reign. Among the various forts and palaces of Jaipur, City Palace stands apart, with its outstanding art and architecture. City Palace is spread in a huge area and comprises of series of gardens, courtyards and buildings.
Observatory – Between 1727 and 1734 Maharajah Jai Singh II of Jaipur constructed five astronomical observatories in west central India. The observatories, or “Jantar Mantars” as they are commonly known, incorporate multiple buildings of unique form, each with a specialized function for astronomical measurement. These structures with their striking combinations of geometric forms at large scale have captivated the attention of architects, artists, and art historians worldwide.
Brahma Temple, is a Hindu temple situated at Pushkar. The temple is one of very few existing temples dedicated to the Hindu God Brahma in India . Although the present temple structure dates back to the 14th century, the temple is believed to be 2000 years old. The temple is mainly built of marble and stone stabs.
Pushkar Lake is a sacred lake of the Hindus. It is surrounded by 52 bathing ghats (a series of steps leading to the lake), where pilgrims throng in large numbers to take a sacred bath, especially around Kartik Poornima (October–November) when the famous Pushkar Fair is held. A dip in the sacred lake is believed to cleanse sins and cure skin diseases. Over 500 Hindu temples are situated around the lake.
Ajmer Sharif Dargah, is a sufi shrine (Dargah) of sufi saint, Moinuddin Chishti located at Ajmer.
Itinerary
- Day 1 / Jaipur
- Arrival at Jaipur by afternoon. Check -in to Homestay / Heritage hotel depending on travellers preference. After Lunch drive to Chand Baori Step well. Dinner at Homestay / Hotel.
- Day 2 / Jaipur
- After breakfast sightseeing by cycling (Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort, City Palace, Observatory). If time permits ride to local market. Dinner at Homestay / Hotel.
- Day 3 / Pushkar
- Early morning after light tea /snack drive to Pushkar. Breakfast on arrival. In Pushkar sightseeing by cycling (Brahma Temple – Pushkar Lake – Ajmer Sharif Dargah). After evening tea drive back to Jaipur.
- Day 4 / Check out and depart
